BERSATU supreme council member Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin has said that she will continue with her business as usual despite rumours circulating that a majority of the party’s supreme council members have agreed to sack her for her alleged ties with Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
“There has been nothing official (coming) from the party,” the Ampang MP was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with news portal The Vibes on Friday (Feb 4).
“Loads of sources are saying otherwise, but nothing has been communicated to me, officially or unofficially.
“I am observing all the reports,” she said, adding that certain parties should stop playing up party politics when the country needs to continue its recovery.
When quizzed about her absence from Bersatu’s recently held supreme council meetings, Zuraida said that her official engagements as a minister had prevented her from attending the meetings.
“I recently came back from an official round-trip overseas, which included London, Dubai and Jeddah, on government business.
“It was unfortunate that I was unable to make it for the meeting,” she said, adding that she would attend when possible.
Zuraida went on reiterate her cordial relationship with Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, adding that she had no idea why she was being attacked in her own party.
Her comments came after Malaysiakini reported that Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman had confirmed that the issue relating to Zuraida’s party membership had been brought up during the party’s meeting on Jan 25.
The Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister has been reportedly linked to the newly formed PBM following news that a group of Bersatu members – who are mostly supporters of the three-term MP – has joined the said party.
Faiz had however noted that Bersatu’s supreme council has not made any decision pending further investigation by the party.
Zuraida used to be a PKR vice-president before the Anwar Ibrahim-led party sacked her for her role in 2020’s Sheraton Move that caused the collapse of the then-Pakatan Harapan federal government.
She then joined Bersatu together with former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, whom PKR had also sacked over his role in the political coup.
Both of them were later appointed to the Bersatu Supreme Council. – Feb 4, 2022
