THE Board of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) upon approval from the Finance Minister has appointed Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan as the fund’s chief EPF officer (CEO) effective March 1.
Previously helming Tenaga Nasional Bhd as its president/CEO, Amir Hamzah replaces Tunku Alizakri Alias who has served as EPF’s CEO since Aug 20, 2018.
Amir Hamzah, 54, brings with him more than 25 years of corporate experience to the retirement fund, according to EPF.
He began his career with the Shell Group of Companies before serving as CEO for MISC Bhd, PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd, PETRONAS Lubricants International, Icon Offshore Bhd, and Themed Attractions Resorts and Hotels Sdn Bhd.
Amir Hamzah who holds a BSc in Management (majoring in Finance and Economics) from Syracuse University, New York had joined TNB in April 2019 succeeding Datuk Seri Azman Mohd who helmed the utility giant for over six years.
EPF chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir said Tunku Alizakri will be continuing his contributions towards public service in a different capacity.
“It is with a heavy heart, we bid goodbye and thank you to Tunku Alizakri for his unwavering dedication and service to the EPF spanning seven years, first as Deputy CEO (Strategy) and then as CEO,” he pointed out in a media statement.
“Tunku Alizakri’s vision, drive, and commitment to all EPF stakeholders, especially its members, is evident in its ongoing drive towards digital acceleration and operational efficiency, the adoption of ESG (environmental, social & governance) and sustainability as key metrics, as well as powering the social protection and well-being agenda.”
Meanwhile, Datuk Baharin Din is the front runner to take up the position of TNB’s chief executive following the departure of Amir Hamzah, according to The Vibes news portal.
“Insiders said a unanimous decision was reached by the board on Baharin who is TNB vice-president (distribution) during a meeting this morning,” reported The Vibes. “The other nominee for the job is TNB chief retail officer Datuk Megat Jalalludin Megat Hassan.” – Feb 10, 2021
