AFTER years of neglect, the recreational park at Lorong 8 in Jementah, Johor is set to undergo significant upgrades, thanks to a RM199,000 funding from the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) via its Chinese New Village Division.
The park – a popular spot for community activities such as exercise, yoga and social gatherings – had fallen into neglect over the last five years.
Damaged pedestrian pathways and broken streetlights had rendered the park less accessible, especially in the early mornings, thus affecting elderly residents and children who frequently use the space.
Jementah assemblywoman (ADUN) Ng Kor Sim announced the news by stating that the allocated funds would be used for several critical improvements.
These include the installation of 12 new streetlights, two spotlights and a traditional Malay-style gazebo (wakaf). In addition, the park’s jogging track will be repaired whilw the parking area will be resurfaced with premix asphalt.
The project which will be awarded through an open tender process running from Sept 5 to 15, is expected to start in early October and be completed by end-2024.
“I visited this park in March 2022 after winning the state election and saw firsthand the condition it was in,” reminisced Ng.
“Residents had reached out to me, seeking help to rehabilitate the park. I’m grateful that KPKT, particularly its Minister Nga Kor Ming, has approved the funds needed for this long-awaited project.”
The first-term DAP state assemblywoman also expressed her appreciation to Ayer Keroh MP Khoo Poay Tiong who serves as the KPKT’s Chinese New Village Division chairman for his role in pushing the project forward.
“This is not just about upgrading a park; it’s about improving the quality of life for the Jementah folks. As their ADUN, I’m committed to advocating for more community-centric projects to enhance the well-being of our residents,” asserted Ng.
All in all, she added that the park upgrade marked an important step toward revitalising community spaces in Jementah and ensuring a more comfortable and safer environment for the local residents. – Sept 11, 2024
