Johor DAP admits voter turnout crucial for PH victory

JOHOR DAP vice-chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali admitted that the voter turnout percentage in the Johor state election (PRN) is crucial for Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the state government.

Hence, he urges all voters to come out and vote because a high turnout rate can give an advantage to PH.

“If the voting percentage is low, it will indeed be a bit difficult. But if it is high, we can win more seats. That is why we have to call our children and grandchildren to return and vote this time,” he said.

However, citing the cost of the election, he believes the state poll should not have been held at this moment. The state elections will cost the country RM90mil.

He stated that it could have been saved if the PRN had been held concurrently with the general election.

He said the elections are being held because some parties missed the former jailed premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The Johor PRN is scheduled to take place on July 11, with nomination day set for June 27, while early voting is on July 7. — July 4, 2026
