Johor polls: Keep campaign paraphernalia away from our property, TNB warns

DO not put up any political party paraphernalia on electric grids or any premises belonging to the national power company, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) warns candidates for the Johor state election.

“Do not stick or hang campaign materials such as posters, flags and banners on towers, electric posts, supply box, grids, the concrete on electrical polls and others.

“These are offences under Section 37 (10) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447). Those found guilty can be slapped with a fine of not more than RM25,000.

“Our officers will be conducting routine inspections on the said places and pull down such paraphernalia if found as it could invite danger and problems to consumers,” it said, in a statement.

Elaborating on the matter, TNB said that apart from being illegal, putting up paraphernalia on TNB electric grids could risk people getting electrocuted.

It added that such a thing could also cause power supply disruption if a flashover occurs, which may trigger a fire incident.

“Plus, putting campaign paraphernalia will also hinder TNB workers from doing their maintenance works and restoring power supply to affected areas.

“People must understand that materials such as campaign flags are held by bamboo sticks, which could act as an electric conduit and electrocute people nearby,” TNB remarked. – Feb 27, 2022.
