DESPITE holding power in Johor for only 22 months, the then-Pakatan Harapan state government has managed to attract quality foreign direct investments (FDIs) between 2018 and early 2020.
“In fact, Johor recorded the highest number of FDIs during the said period, before it was toppled through political treachery.
“This economic success is a fact. It’s neither a rhetoric nor an election propaganda,” said Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim, in a statement.
On Jan 9, the Election Commission (EC) announced that the Johor state election will take place on March 12, with the nomination day falling on Feb 26.
The state election is a historic moment for Malaysia as this would be the first time in the nation’s history where those 18 years of age and above would be allowed to vote, unlike previously where only those aged 21 and above were eligible to cast their ballots.
Don’t underestimate any coalition
The state election will see a battle among three coalition, Pakatan, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional.
On that note, Hassan reminded friends and foes alike that all three coalitions have experience in administering the state, with BN holding Johor the longest.
“BN ruled the state until it was voted out in 2018. After the Sheraton Move, which saw Pakatan getting ousted, Perikatan administered the state via a cooperation with BN.
“So, never take any of them lightly. However, despite our weaknesses back then, Pakatan had achieved considerable amount of achievement during our short reign there,” he concluded. – Feb 12, 2022
