Johor polls: Watch your mouth, Annuar Musa tells Wan Saiful

WITH the war of words escalating between UMNO and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), an UMNO MP reminded the latter not to go overboard in its criticism.

“I noticed Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan is attacking us incessantly as the Johor state election nears. I advise him to focus on strengthening his own party first instead of criticising UMNO.

“UMNO has its own strategy. Our party has a long history and credentials. We are not a newbie and definitely not a splinter group,” he said, in a Facebook post.

Two days, Wan Saiful upped the ante against UMNO by calling its leaders to name their party president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as its prime minister candidate.

“I challenged three Johor UMNO leaders to name Zahid as their prime minister candidate but they kept quiet.

“In fact, I even made another challenge in Benut last night but nothing came by. Are they afraid?” he was reported as asking.

On Jan 24, Zahid was ordered to enter his defence on all 47 corruption charges involving millions of ringgit from charitable foundation Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB).

Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah ruled on that the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against the former deputy prime minister, after evaluating all the evidence.

Use wisdom and tact

On that note, Annuar told Wan Saiful having a “poster boy” for the Johor election was not an issue, adding the state assembly was dissolved to return the mandate to the people.

He added Johor state government needed a stable administration so that sound policies could be enacted to bring development to the state.

“These non-stop attacks would take us nowhere. Nowadays, politics need tact and high-level of wisdom. So please focus on policies and how to bring progress to the people,” the Ketereh MP mentioned.

With that, the Communications and Multimedia Minister urged Bersatu leaders to strengthen ties among Malay-Muslim political parties instead of antagonising one another.

“God willing, we can achieve the aspiration to form a strong political cooperation among Malay-Muslim parties in the future,” he remarked. – Feb 6, 2022.
