KAB’s board strengthened with seasoned energy professionals, advances in gender diversity

KINERGY Advancement Bhd (KAB), a sustainable energy solutions (SES) pioneer in Malaysia, has appointed Dr Amanda Lee Sean Peik as an independent non-executive director (INED) and Jonathan Wu Jo-Han as its executive director.

With the inclusion of Lee, KAB’s board now comprises three female directors, underscoring the group’s dedication to fostering gender diversity and inclusive leadership.

This commitment is an extension of the strategic direction set by KAB’s chairman Datuk Dr Ong Peng Su since he came on board in April 2021. Ong’s extensive experience in the power industry and his vision for the group’s growth in green energy solutions have been instrumental in steering KAB towards its current focus on SES.

KAB’s expansion into the SES segment is now bolstered by the inclusion of Lee, a seasoned hydrologist and water resources engineering, alongside Wu who has played a pivotal figure in shaping the strategic direction of the group and the development of the SES segment.

These strategic appointments are set further to strengthen KAB’s technical expertise in the sustainable energy and engineering sector while encouraging a positive outlook to fuel the group’s strategic growth and ambition.

Lee, 38, holds a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Nottingham (Malaysia Campus) and a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Her wealth of experience in hydrology and water resources engineering with a notable focus on climate change impacts and flood forecasting will be instrument in guiding KAB’s hydropower and water resource management projects.

Her expertise will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to KAB as it embarks on more hydropower projects.

Meanwhile, Wu who joined KAB in August 2018 has been instrumental in driving the group’s expansion into sustainable energy by working closely with executive deputy chairman-cum-group managing director Datuk Lai Keng Onn.

His strategic prowess and leadership in managing operations and securing key deals have significantly contributed to the group’s growth.

Having served as director for most subsidiaries of the group and chief operating officer (COO) for the SES segment since 2023, the promotion of Wu, 30, to group executive director underscores his invaluable contributions to the organisation’s success. His experience will continue to play a crucial role in driving KAB’s future growth.

These strategic appointments come at a pivotal time as KAB continues to expand its sustainable energy solutions portfolio. In addition to the recent acquisition of a 9.6MW mini-hydropower plant in Kedah, KAB has also completed the transfer of an 11MW mini-hydropower plant in Indonesia in 2023.

“As we actively expand our energy portfolio, we are thrilled to boast a board comprising a wide range of experts who offer different perspectives to enrich our decision-making processes,” commented executive deputy chairman Lai.

“Their decision to join the board reflects mutual trust and underscores our shared values and vision, driving forward our sustainable energy development in the ASEAN region and globally.”

At the close of today’s trading, KAB was unchanged at 36.5 sen with 6.16 million shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM725 mil. – March 18, 2024
