REMOVING Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from the Prime Minister post and preventing the UMNO court cluster from interfering in the country’s administration could pave the way for political restructuring, said A Kadir Jasin.
“Muhyiddin is no longer eligible to be the prime minister, and the court cluster’s interference in Government-related matters ended when they withdrew support for Pakatan Nasional (PN) and for Muhyiddin,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Without Muhyiddin and the interference of the court cluster, there is an opportunity to reshuffle PN and include participation from neutral parties such as Warisan, Pejuang, MUDA and other smaller political parties in Sabah and Sarawak.”
The challenge now, Kadir acknowledged, is to choose a candidate to replace Muhyiddin who is ideally not someone from his current cabinet.
At the same time, Kadir urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) to work hard to prove, once and for all, that Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the best man for the job.
He however stressed that Muhyiddin losing the vote of confidence does not automatically mean that Anwar will be the next prime minister.
Rather, Anwar has to prove that he has majority support because by not supporting Muhyiddin, this does not immediately mean that the MPs support Anwar either.
“The best way forward is to ease the political tension that has been plaguing the country since the political coup 17 months ago and restore the stability of the country’s governance until a general election can be held when the COVID-19 epidemic is brought under control,” Kadir said. – Aug 6, 2021
