THE sudden cessation of operations of budget carrier MyAirline Sdn Bhd on Oct 12 is closely related to the increasingly chaotic public service leadership.
Veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin has described as “mind boggling” that so many agencies and authorities overlook or are not bothered about the capital sources of the airline company nor its financial position.
“The way the company suspend its operations without notifying passengers and the authorities (beforehand) gave the impression that it did not care at all about the welfare of customers and disrespected the authorities,” he penned in his latest Facebook post.
“As far as we know, only fly by night operations will embark on such a heinous business practice. Or in today’s terms, a scam.”
The national journalism laureate further thanked mainstream media and social media “for little by little revealing that there are parties or characters within the company (MYAirline) which do have a record of violating business laws”.
According to Kadir, media sources have reported that several companies or operations owned by Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua (Datuk) were fined RM50 mil by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in November 2021 for taking people’s savings without a license.
Moreover, money amounting to RM118.7 mil in 45 bank accounts nationwide has been frozen following an operation of various agencies involving BNM, the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), the Companies Commission Malaysia (SSM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA).
“It is therefore strange that the Transport Ministry, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MaVCOM) and SSM failed to detect any elements of scam in the company,” berated the former group editor-in-chief on mainstream New Straits Times.
“Henceforth, they lost their qualification to investigate this case. So, it was right for PDRM to take over and acted decisively to arrest Goh, his wife and children.”
Added Kadir: “It seems that elements of corruption, breach of trust and neglect of governance continue to haunt our business world.” – Oct 23, 2023
