Khairuddin: “I will remain as Kuala Nerus MP”

FORMER PAS heavyweight Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has said that he will not resign as Kuala Nerus MP and will instead continue serving the constituents who voted for him during the 14th general election (GE14).

This comes following his resignation from PAS on Monday (March 14); according to a report in Malaysiakini, Khairuddin said that he had decided to hand over his monthly MP allowances to his former party until the next general election.

Although the 14th session of the Parliament was coming to a close, the decision was in keeping with an oath made during his GE14 campaign as a PAS candidate, he added.

“It is my undertaking (ijtihad) to remain as an MP, but I will relinquish any allowances I receive as an MP to PAS,” he was reported as saying by the news portal.

“In the meantime, I will continue to work without an MP’s salary or allowance until the end of the term to ensure that allocations continue to reach the people without favour.

“Therefore, it is my undertaking (ijtihad) to remain as a member of Parliament.”

The former plantation industries and commodities minister who joined PAS as a member 33 years ago in 1989 was commenting on calls for him to resign as Kuala Nerus MP.

Last month Khairuddin was sacked as the secretary of the PAS Syura Council owing to disciplinary issues.

In January he was expelled from the party’s central committee. – March 16, 2022
