Kindness meets negligence: Food distributor for flood victim killed by drunk driver

NOT every good deed is repaid with kindness. This statement best reflects the fate of a good samaritan by the name of Mohd Taufik Ariff Sariff.

Apparently he was on his way to deliver food to the flood victims, but encountered a road accident.

True to his nature, he came out of his car to help out at the tragedy near the Taman Desa Jaya petrol station.

But on the road where vehicles are coming in fast, anything bad could happen, more so if alcohol is involved.

Instead of being a helper, he ended up becoming a victim when a BMW, believed to be driven by a drunk driver, slammed into him.

The aftermath of the accident was also drama-filled. Before the cops arrived, the offender was subjected to street justice as can be seen in the videos.

The cyberspace too reflected the people’s opinion regarding the drunk driver. Safe to say, there was very little sympathy for the killer.

Netizen @UkisMazelanAbas said it was appropriate to beat up the drunk people first before calling the police.

“It will take some time for Anthony Loke to act. Don’t give these drunk people a chance. Let them fear drinking and driving,” he said.

His thoughts were supported by @Lazuli00047737 who said it was fortunate that the killer was beaten up first. “I am afraid he will suddenly be freed from accusation after the trial,” he added.

Another netizen, however, advised caution. “During the beating, don’t record. Only show the result,” he said.

Unsurprisingly, the topic took a quick turn into road safety and regulations, with @ateofapril wondering why PM Anwar has yet to impose the no alcohol after 10 pm rule.

“How many people are you waiting for to die before you start doing it?” she said.

Also, netizen @mrsolero_solero helpfully pointed out the light punishment for drunk driving:

@kamar_hatim further pointed out why Islam forbids alcohol for their followers. “The problem now is that the drunk non-believers are the ones that kill innocent muslims,” he said.

Also, @paosjk made a fair point that drunk people should just call a grab instead. —Apr 14, 2025
