ONE-STOP sustainable energy and engineering solutions specialist Kinergy Advancement Bhd (KAB) (formerly Kejuruteraan Asastera Bhd) has sealed a strategic tie-up with Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) for the development of 29 potential renewable energy (RE) projects in the state.
Under the collaboration which targets power generation of over 1,800 megawatts (MW) in capacity, Kinergy’s wholly owned subsidiary, KAB Energy Holdings Sdn Bhd, will collaborate with PKNPk to identify, evaluate and develop RE projects across Perak.
The group’s technical expertise takes centre stage in this strategic partnership to drive innovative energy developments with the aim of advancing the national energy transition for the region.
Leveraging a proven track record in managing diverse energy portfolio, Kinergy Energy will take the lead in conducting in-depth feasibility studies to evaluate the technical, commercial and legal viability of potential project sites.
These studies span hydropower generation from identified rivers, floating solar installations on lakes and ground-mounted solar projects on state-allocated land.
The partnership is well-positioned to capitalise on the immense potential of hydropower, floating solar and ground-mounted solar projects across strategic locations and critical resources such as rivers, lakes and state-owned land.
Aligned with “Perak Sejahtera 2030 Flagship 12: Water Resources and RE”, this partnership not only enhances the energy resilience of the Perak state but also contributes to the broader national goals of sustainable and RE development.
The initiatives under this collaboration directly support the objectives of increasing water resource efficiency and promoting RE usage, thus marking a significant step toward achieving Malaysia’s long-term sustainability targets.

“As a region brimming with potential, especially in the hydropower and solar energy sphere, we are excited to collaborate with PKNPk to tap into these resources in a meaningful way,” commented Kinergy’s group managing director Datuk Lai Keng Onn.
“Kinergy is proud to be a key partner by offering its expertise to drive sustainable development and collaboratively explore Perak’s energy potential with 50MW of power generation capacity projects currently in the pipeline.”
According to Lai, Kinergy’s sustainable energy solutions (SES) segment was created with the goal of providing innovative and cleaner energy solutions that are able to make a real difference for both the environment and the communities that the group serves.
“Henceforth, by partnering PKNPk, Kinergy is able to accelerate the development of sustainable energy infrastructure, thus strengthening Perak’s position as a leader in Malaysia’s renewable and clean energy transition,” enthused Lai who is also Kinergy’s executive deputy chairman.
“This collaboration will bring transformative benefits at both the state and national levels, hence paving the way for a more resilient future.”
At the close of today’s (Feb 17) mid-day trading, Kinergy was unchanged at 32 sen with 16.46 million shares traded, thus valuing the company at RM665 mil. – Feb 17, 2025
