RETIRED DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has challenged MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong to prove that he has claimed that two-time prime minister (PM) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the most corrupt PM or the latter should withdraw his statement if he could not produce any proof.
“We should not listen to Lim. Since when do we listen to him? At one time, he declared Tun Mahathir as the most corrupt prime minister. After that, they hugged each other and he had forgotten what he had accused Tun (Mahathir) of,” Wee was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying in Penang yesterday (Nov 7).
“So if you ask me, DAP is consistently inconsistent. That is it,” added the caretaker Transport Minister.
Elsewhere, the 81-year-old veteran lawmaker also took offence of the incumbent Ayer Hitam MP advising him not to be arrogant in predicting Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) winning chances in the 15th General Election (GE15).
“I am sorry, but Ka Siong had been misinformed. I never predicted that PH would win the GE15, but this is a possibility that cannot be ruled out,” asserted Kit Siang, noting that he had mentioned in Penang that PH’s slogan Kita Boleh (We Can) has at least four meanings.
They are:
- PH can win GE15 and return to Putrajaya to form the Federal Government by beating both the UMNO-Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions. But this is subject to the condition of a high voter turnout given a low voter turnout as in the Malacca and Johor state general elections will only benefit UMNO-MCA-MIC;
- PH can succeed in making its head Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th PM;
- PH can restore the rights of Sabah and Sarawak as contained in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63); and
- Most importantly, PH can undo the misgovernance where Malaysia failed its founding father Tunku Abdul Rahman’s vision to become “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world” but instead became today a second-rate mediocre country.
“Is Ka Siong saying that there is no possibility of PH winning the GE15 and Anwar becoming Malaysia’s 10th PM?” asked Kit Siang.
“Is Ka Siong saying that after Malaysia is condemned to be a second-rate mediocre country after six decades of UMNO-MCA-MIC government that it will further lag behind other countries whether in political democracy, economic prowess, high educational standards and the fight against corruption?”
On the same note, Kit Siang said he is prepared to meet Wee to understand why MCA leaders had never condemned the 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) scandal which caused Malaysia to be regarded by the world as “kleptocracy at its worst”.
“I believe if the MCA founders and early presidents like Tun Tan Cheng Lock and Tun Tan Siew Sin were alive today, they would have no hesitation to condemn the 1MDB scandal as it is something which went against the principle of even the third UMNO president and second PM Tun Abdul Razak Hussein (father of incarcerated ex-premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak),” he reckoned.
