Kit Siang: Nonsensical that Anwar’s unity government will fall if PN wins big in six state polls

By Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang

PAS and Bersatu leaders are making baseless claims that Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar unity government at national level will fall if Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins big in this Saturday’s (Aug 12) six state polls.

The very fact that none of them could explain how Anwar Ibrahim could be removed as the 10th M shows they are as blur as anyone as to how the Anwar unity government could be removed whatever happens in the six state polls on Aug 12.

PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang has claimed that PN’s victory in the state polls is of utmost importance to change the federal government.

He said: “If we win, then there will be a change of federal government. That is what it means.” But Hadi is unable to say how this change of government could be done.

Hadi should be punished for masterminding the Sheraton Move political conspiracy which toppled the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in February 2020 after 22 months.

Instead, he is asking the people to support him in a second Sheraton Move political conspiracy to topple the Anwar unity government.

In the PH government from 2018-2020, Hadi agitated for the toppling of the PH administration on the basis of lies, falsehoods, fake news and hate speech by using irresponsible race and religious rhetorics that the Malay race and Islamic religion were under threat.

He accused the then PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as my pawn and stooge, and that the PH government was DAP-dominated, leveraging as evidence Dr Mahathir’s speech in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September 2018 to ratify the International Covenant on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) and the Rome Treaty.

Will Dr Mahathir tell Hadi the truth that the DAP was not involved in any way in his speech to the UN General Assembly in September 2018 and that the DAP – whether through cabinet ministers or the party’s political leadership – never asked Dr Mahathir to go to the UN General Assembly to promise to ratify ICERD or the Rome Treaty?

Bersatu deputy president Datuyk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu also said there are other ways the federal government can be changed despite the anti-party-hopping law being in force.

Although Hadi and Ahmad Faizal said there are legal ways under the Federal Constitution to topple the Anwar unity government, the obvious fact that they could not demonstrate one way to topple the Anwar unity government is proof that they are as ignorant as anyone as to how to topple the Anwar unity government.

This is in light with the new law barring MPs from party hopping and with PN’s policy which does not recognise Sabah and Sarawak as legitimate and equal partners in the formation of Malaysia.

Malaysia should not go back to the days where there were three Prime Ministers in five years. Malaysia needs political stability and national unity of Malaysians regardless of race, religion or region for Malaysia to rise again to become a great world-class nation.

If Anwar fails in his promise to make Malaysia a great world-class nation, then the time to make the judgement and to punish Anwar is the 16th General Election (GE16) in 2027 as opposed to the Aug 12 six state polls.

There must be no split vote, protest vote or stay-away vote for every vote counts if Malaysia is to rise again to become a great world-class nation. – Aug 8, 2023
