UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that the party has agreed to unconditionally accept the return of Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Khairy Jamaluddin or KJ, and Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar to the party.
The rule also applies to other applicants who were suspended, expelled, or left the party for any reason.
In a post on Instagram last night (April 17), Khairy said: “I’m home.”
The brief post is believed to be in response to the green light by the party for his return after UMNO’s Supreme Council (MKT) announced the return of 6252 applicants under the Rumah Bangsa initiative.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you president and Supreme Council,” Khairy added in another Instagram post.
Meanwhile, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was made in a meeting held in Melaka on Friday.
“This includes 6,252 former leaders and members at the UMNO division and branch levels nationwide. This decision supports and fully upholds the Rumah Bangsa initiative introduced by Ahmad Zahid, which opens the door for any member to rejoin UMNO without conditions,” he said at a press conference.
He added that, in line with Clause 5.2 of UMNO’s Constitution, the MKT also amended membership rules to allow online registration, making it easier for new members to join, especially among the younger generation.
Khairy had formally requested that his expulsion from UMNO be revoked, with his original membership number reactivated. He submitted his appeal letter to Ahmad Zahid last month in line with the Rumah Bangsa spirit. — April 18, 2026
