KJ to file police report over identity theft on Padu

FORMER Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has announced his intention to file a police report regarding identity theft after discovering that his identification card number was misused for registration with the Central Database Hub (Padu).

The issue arose when Khairy encountered difficulties attempting to register with Padu, prompting him to take to Instagram to express his astonishment. He received a warning pop-up indicating that an account had already been created using his details, despite him never having registered with Padu before.

In a subsequent post on the social media platform, Khairy confirmed that the matter had been resolved with Padu successfully resetting his identification card login.

“Some guy registered using my IC number. His identity has been doxxed online, which I’m not sure is a good thing.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right. The right thing to do is make a police report for identity theft, which I will do. Not dox and leak that guy’s information online,” added the former Rembau MP.

“That invites more suspicion against Padu. Anyway, now I’ve registered and submitted the e-KYC (electronic Know-Your-Customer).”

Meanwhile, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli press secretary Farhan Akmal cautioned the public against using others’ identification card numbers for Padu registration, labelling it as impersonation or identity theft.

He reassured that the individual behind Khairy’s fake registration had been identified, adding that no data leak occurred as the process did not pass the e-KYC verification.

“That’s impersonation or identity theft. The person behind Khairy’s fake registration has been identified.

“It’s easy to track. There is no data leak as it didn’t pass the e-KYC process. To the person, good luck,” stated Farhan on X.

Moreover, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim disclosed that Rafizi had been summoned to provide clarification on the Padu registration issue during the recent cabinet meeting.

Although Anwar did not delve into specifics, he mentioned that concerns raised by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg prompted the need for clarification.

Sarawak Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah likened the Padu registration process to stripping citizens naked, citing the extensive disclosure of personal details including bank accounts, real estate, and investments. – March 29, 2024
