KL shares in negative territory at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained in negative territory at mid-afternoon, weighed down by persistent selling pressure in heavyweight counters.

At 3.05pm, the FBM KLCI slid 17.76 points or 1.32% to 1,325.33 from last Friday’s close of 1,343.09.

The key index opened 6.86 points weaker at 1,336.23 today.

On the broader market, decliners surpassed advancers 522 to 244, while 271 counters were unchanged, 973 untraded and 108 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 2.03 billion shares worth RM1.15 bil.

Among heavyweights, Axiata eased 15 sen to RM3.23, IHH fell 11 sen to RM5.15, Hartalega slipped 24 sen to RM6.75, Maxis reduced 10 sen to RM5.27 while Tenaga rose 10 sen to RM11.80.

Of the actives, Vortex added two sen to five sen, Careplus perked 4.5 sen to 27 sen, Sapura Energy gained half-a-sen to eight sen while MLAB and Ekovest were flat at 1.5 sen and 38 sen, respectively.

Top losers were led by Carlsberg which dipped RM1.42 to RM24.20, Dutch Lady erased 88 sen to RM42.00, F&N was 82 sen weaker at RM29.26, Hong Leong Bank lost 68 sen to RM13.52 and Yinson trimmed 55 sen to RM4.75.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index fell 128.66 points to 9,057.64, the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 140.29 points to 9,868.09 while the FBMT 100 Index gave up 131.05 points to 8,991.18.

The FBM 70 slid 195.05 points to 10,340.79 but the FBM Ace rebounded 18.81 points to 3,785.76.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.89 of-a-point to 103.40, the Financial Services Index dipped 167.69 points to 12,137.25 and the Plantation Index was 110.32 points easier at 6,023.31. – March 30, 2020, Bernama
