Kuala Kangsar MP who backs Anwar’s leadership slapped with show-cause letter

THE Bersatu MP who declared support for the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been issued a show cause letter by the party’s leadership.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the Supreme Council meeting chaired by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last night (Oct 26) also discussed Iskandar Dzulkarnain’s position.

“The party’s disciplinary board has issued a show cause letter to Iskandar Dzulkarnain, before it takes any further action against him as per the party constitution,” Hamzah said in a statement uploaded on his Facebook page today (Oct 27).

The Larut MP however, did not provide further details on the matter, including when the letter was issued to Iskandar and if there was any deadline set for the latter to respond.

On Oct 12, Iskandar Dzulkarnain declared his support for Anwar, saying the move was to ease the burden faced by his constituents over the rising cost of living.

The Bersatu lawmaker said his decision was to see if Anwar would uphold his pledge regarding allocations for lawmakers.

He also said he could no longer stand to see his constituency left behind just because of political differences, but stressed he remained loyal to his party.

In response, Hamzah had released a statement the following day (Oct 13) alleging that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had threatened Iskandar Dzulkarnain with corruption charges if he did not declare his support for the government.

Hamzah also claimed that, in a recent meeting with Muhyiddin, Iskandar Dzulkarnain had appeared “visibly distressed” due to the intimidation being placed on him.

MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki had since denied the allegation and described it as an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the agency.

In the meantime, Hamzah also announced that Bersatu’s annual general assembly will take place from Nov 23 to 25 at the Ideal Convention Center (IDCC), Shah Alam, which will be chaired by Bersatu vice president Datuk Radzi Jidin.

“Bersatu’s annual general assembly begins with the inauguration of Bersatu wings on Nov 23, followed by the general assembly on Nov 24 and 25,” Hamzah said. – Oct 27, 2023
