Kuala Langat forest reserve: “Are you trying to deceive us?” S’gor rep asks MB

A SELANGOR state assemblyman today opened fire at the state government trying to pull the wool over the people’s eyes over degazetting parts of the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve (KLNFR).

“What is there to delay the decision? You have already degazetted parts of the forest reserve last month. The only way to resolve the matter now is by retracting your decision, not delay it,” Sungai Pelek representative Ronnie Liu told FocusM.

Earlier today, the Selangor state government announced that it has decided to delay the decision to degazette parts of KLNFR, following a meeting with PKR leadership.

“PKR’s political bureau is satisfied that Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has agreed to delay the decision until the latter have considered and explained all issues pertaining to the issue.

“The party has made it clear that the decision must consider various issues, such as protecting the environment, transparency and minimal adverse effect to the people involved.

“This is not only PKR’s concerns but also of Selangor state legislative members and non-governmental organisations,” PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil was reported saying.

However, Liu pointed out that based on Selangor state government’s own gazette, parts of the pristine forest reserve had already been degazetted on Aug 12.

The DAP leader shot back at the state government, saying that it was ‘totally unintelligent’ of the state government to ignore the public backlash, especially when they do not have a good reason to back their decision.

“People in general, particularly the environmentalists, are suspicious of the state leadership under Amirudin. Speculations are negative and the menteri besar must explain his actions openly,” Liu stated.

On the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) highway, Liu said that according to a Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA), the fully elevated highway cutting across Petaling Jaya does little in dispersal traffic at the area.

“When I was a Selangor exco, PJD Link was called Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) and we laid out specific conditions to the project developer.

“However, the developer could not find reasons to pursue the project. So, I’m surprised why it was raised again using a different name now,” he concluded. – Sept 2, 2021
