Kuala Langat forest reserve: Pakatan confused over its own decision, Umno mocks

UMNO accused Pakatan Harapan Selangor of being confused over its own decision-making process pertaining to the controversial degazetting of the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve (KLNFR) issue.

“The Selangor state government itself degazetted parts of the forest reserve and you expect us to believe that none of the exco members were unaware of it?

“Once the matter got exposed, they hilariously objected to their own decision. No one tendered an apology or admitted to any wrongdoing,” its information chief Shahril Hamdan said in a Facebook post.

Last week, Selangor exco Hee Loy Sian shocked the state assembly by saying that parts of KLNFR has been degazetted for a mixed-development project.

The decision was made despite the Selangor state assembly unanimously passing a motion not to degazette any forest reserve area in November last year.

Following brickbats from the public and lawmakers, Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that he would delay the matter until all matters were resolved.

However, DAP lawmaker Ronnie Liu shot back saying the state government gazette clearly indicated that the forest reserve was degazetted in Aug and Amirudin should reverse the decision, not delay it.

Yesterday, the Coalition for the Protection of Selangor Forests (CPSF) called for action to be taken against false claims made by the Selangor state government on the KLNFR issue.

Touching on the matter, Shahril “congratulated” Pakatan leaders, particularly its chief Amirudin, for holding a meeting with his allies on the matter, days after keeping mum after the matter got exposed.

“But I find it funny that Amirudin, in his capacity as Selangor Pakatan chairman, announced that he would raise the matter with the state menteri besar, which is also him,” he remarked. – Sept 6, 2021
