LABUAN: The Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (IBFC) will be hosting at least 30 ambassadors from various countries next week as part of the federal territory’s efforts to promote the island globally.
Labuan Corporation CEO Dr Fary Akmal Osman said the ambassadors’ visit on March 13-15 would be a boon to the island’s tourism, education and economic promotion activities.
“We expect the number to double to close to 100 delegates as they will be accompanied by their spouses and officers,” she told a press conference here today.
She said various programmes related to investment, education, sports, culture, tourism, science and technology as well as knowledge and knowhow transfer have been drawn up for the delegates.
According to her, the delegates would be visiting Petronas’ methanol plant, a major producer of the readily biodegradable chemical.
“They will also be involved in corporate social responsibility activities at Rusukan Besar Island where they will witness turtle hatching and visit the island’s heritage site ‘The Chimney’.
“We are banking on economic bilateral ties with the countries represented by the ambassadors to highlight a number of areas (relevant issues),” Fary added.
The Malaysian delegates will include Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali and Public Services Department director-general Datuk Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman.
Other Malaysian officials include Treasury secretary-general Datuk Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Datuk Hajah Rosida Jaafar and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob. – March 4, 2020, Bernama
