Lack of biz acumen, call for self-reflection after celebrity preacher folds up her ‘posh’ restaurant

THAT opposition-slant celebrity preacher Ustazah Asma Harun was forced to close her restaurant “Momen Kafe” in Bandar Prima Senawang, Negri Sembilan after losing in excess of RM300,000 after one year of operations has set tongue wagging among netizens.

According to netizen Roman Akramovich (@SyedAkramin), the motivator and activist had prior to this made to bear monthly losses amounting to RM30,000 despite contending that (i) the food prices were reasonable; (ii) her restaurant was strategically located; and (iii) the premises was beautifully decorated.

“Maybe she needs to evaluate whether the food sold is appetising or otherwise. One can’t do food business only to syok sendiri (satisfy oneself),” opined @SyedAkramin.

The netizen’s post which attracted close to 800,000 views and 3,000 likes at the time of writing promoted some netizens to question Ustazah Asma’s business acumen although she insisted that she is the type of person who does not give up easily.

Some netizens commented that diners would shy away once they found out that the food is far from mouth-watering. Moreover, there is also the likelihood of the proprietor being over-dependent on “PAS business”.

As it is, a few netizens revealed that “Google reviews” of Ustazah Asma’s restaurant left very much to be desired.

One netizen reckoned that Ustazah Asma wanted to sell her loss-making business “but the way she conducted her sales pitch wasn’t convincing at all”.

Some feel that she could not focus on running her business because she spent too much time preaching.

Others attributed her business failure to retribution from her sins “of trying to divide fellow Muslims”. – Feb 27, 2024
