THERE IS tranquility in shopping during the night, with less people about and incidentally, less noise too.
But shoppers who love to shop late at night also need to be mindful of the closing hours.
You never know if your shopping trip will instead turn into a one night stay, which is really inconvenient when we think about it since there is no toilet inside a shop lot that has been locked up.
And that was exactly what happened to an unfortunate lady who was in the midst of browsing the shelves in Mr DIY.

According to netizen @dahfollowbelum who made the video post, it was only 9.45pm when suddenly the shop was shut and the lights were turned off.
Thankfully the lady brought along her handphone which she used to call her husband who then informed the staff downstairs.
“Now imagine if I didn’t bring a phone,” the lady reportedly said.
Mr DIY has yet to make a statement regarding this incident but our fellow netizens have much to say about this.
Netizen @MrG989898 said the video should be sent to Mr DIY so they could terminate the staff. Several others found a light hearted moment in this supposedly adrenaline-inducing video.
“Save money. Don’t need to buy tickets to enter a haunted house at the fun fair,” said @ReedzuanH who noted the darkness.
@JuniverseAI further pointed out that there were plenty of supplies in Mr DIY, so at least the occupant won’t die inside, such as food, water, pillow and more.
Then there was netizen @paosjk claiming that Mr DIY would close the lights as a way to usher the customers out.
Also, @sehijaws felt that the lady was foolish for entering the shop when it was nearly closing time.
But perhaps the best comment came from @matdus and this was what he said:
His comedy gold was enhanced by a reply from @ejeler who stated that there were many tools around and the lady could try them out in her attempt to escape.
Now that we think about it, maybe this video was created with the intention to enhance Mr DIY’s branding.
Perhaps it is a subtle way to nudge customers, telling that the variety of items sold there are so vast that one could literally stay a night in Mr DIY and make it out alive, unlike the other shops. One can only wonder. —Apr 14, 2026
