Lajim Ukin succumbs to COVID-19 days after medically induced coma

FORMER Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin passed away today, five days after being placed in a medically induced coma due to COVID-19 related complications.

He was 66 years old.

According to Malaysiakini, Lajim, who was also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Lajim had been warded at the KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah since Aug 13.

Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, where Lajim served as executive chairman, also confirmed the stalwart’s demise in a condolence message to his family.

In his political career running for decades, Lajim served as Beaufort MP from 2008 to 2013. Apart from serving as Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister (2009-2012), he also served as Deputy Transport Minister from 2009 until 2012.

Initially a leader of United Sabah Party (PBS), he later joined Umno in 1994. He was also a PKR member from 2013 until 2016. – Aug 29, 2021.
