Leading higher learning institution brings industry to the classroom

IN its quest to provide the best quality higher learning education, SEGi University & Colleges is paying close attention to all programmes offered across all campuses – industry-driven with academic know-how, provide direct and indirect industry exposure, and a guarantee of over 95% employability within three months of graduation.

SEGi’s dedication to fulfil its brand promise ‘The Best In You, Made Possible’ is evident in its 45 years of excellence.

Recently, SEGi achieved a new milestone when the institution was awarded two full accreditations from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for its Diploma in Restaurant Management and BA (Hons) Media and Communication (3+0) programmes.

Both programmes are offered in SEGi College Subang Jaya; the Diploma in Restaurant Management is also offered at SEGi College Kota Damansara.

“The curriculum for these programmes is co-designed by industry and academics, bringing students the best of both worlds,” said SEGi University & Colleges managing director Stella Lau.

“We don’t just prepare students for the industry upon graduation. Throughout their studies, they are mentored by the top leaders of the industry. This is the signature offering only available at SEGi, and we are very proud of it.”

The two full accreditations strengthened SEGi’s strong presence as one of the leading higher learning institutions in the country.

Full accreditation means that the courses meet the quality standard and criteria set by MQA that complies with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework.

With the MQA accreditation, students interested in the programmes can now apply for education loans, grants, or scholarships.

“With these accreditations, students get the assurance to obtain the finest studies before entering the workforce,” explained Lau.

The Diploma in Restaurant Management is similar to a 2U+2I (two years in university and two years in industry) programme, which is divided into two portions. It combines practical and classroom learning.

Students will learn and develop their academic know-how skills in SEGi during the first portion. In the second portion, students will enter the industry with one of SEGi’s partners, such as QSR Brands, for a year of paid internship.

Graduates will receive a diploma from SEGi and a certificate from QSR Brands. Graduates may also stand a chance to be management trainees at QSR Brands’ restaurants upon completion.

Meanwhile, the Bachelor Degree in Media and Communication programme is offered in partnership with the University of Greenwich (UOG).

It combines academic, creative and critical approaches to media, providing the knowledge and skills to evaluate and participate in today’s media industry.

80% of the modules involve SEGi partners’ industry experts to assign assignments to students. Students will experience actual scenarios, solving real-time ideas and current issues. Students will also stand a chance for an internship in the creative industry.

The partnership with the University of Greenwich allows SEGi to deliver UOG’s programmes.

UOG provides the programme structure and teaching materials, approves teaching staff, and moderates assessed work. It gives a different experience for students and quality assurance. For more information about all the programmes available at SEGi, visit www.segi.edu.my. – July 14, 2022
