“Let Anwar lead unity gov’t for a full term,” says Abang Jo

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg has probably laid to rest the multiple attempts to overthrow the government headed by Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after he stated the latter should lead the country until the end of the five-year mandate.“If Anwar, the PM is already there (leading the unity government), let him finish.“Because the government’s provision according to democratic practice is that when an election is held, whatever the result is, let it be finished,” he said in a video that is going viral.

Abang Johari affectionately knows as Abang Jo, made the statement at the Seven-year Townhall Session at the Hikmah Exchange while answering questions from the media. Moreover, he added that if Anwar is replaced in the middle of the term, he is confident that many more efforts to change the government will take place after that.

The priority now should be focused on ensuring that the country’s politics are stable in order to restore the country’s economy and ensure that the people enjoy prosperity, according to him.Abang Jo also pointed out that if the current government is changed after only one year of governing, he is of the view the country’s politics will continue to shake.“After that there will be various (terms) such as breaking through the roof, entering through the window and maybe there will also be breaking through the floor later. In the end, the victims are the people of the whole country.”Therefore, he noted Sarawak continues to stick to its position to support the existing government to strengthen Malaysia’s political stability. – Jan 14, 2023
