FORMER premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad looked to have reconciled with fellow Bersatu co-founder Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Malay Proclamation Secretariat chairperson Khairuddin Abu Hassan shared details on Muhyiddin’s visit to Dr Mahathir home last night (July 4) in Seri Kembangan and stayed for about two hours, according to Malaysiakini.
“The meeting between the two Malay leaders (showed they are) willing to put aside their political differences to take part in the struggle to solidify the position of bumiputera in this country, (and this) should be commended.
“Their efforts will be an impetus for Malays who are starving for absolute Malay unity,” said Khairuddin in a statement today.
This is the second significant figure in the Sheraton Move to meet Dr Mahathir in the last week, following former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Moreover, Dr Mahathir had previously referred to Muhyiddin as a “traitor” or “betrayer” for his part in ousting the Pakatan Harapan administration in February 2020.
Just before the parliamentary elections last November, Dr Mahathir called Muhyiddin a “traitor” for the latter’s role in the Sheraton Move.
Following the events of the Sheraton Move, Dr Mahathir founded a new party called Pejuang but was defeated in the parliamentary elections.
Now, his main platform is the Malay Proclamation, a movement that he hopes will unite Malays politically.
The former premier seemed to have softened his stance against Muhyiddin and the Perikatan Nasional coalition in recent months. – July 5, 2023
