DAP parliamentary leader Anthony Loke took a swipe at Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan for the latter’s earlier comment that all 28 candidates chosen to represent BN in the Melaka state election must sign a statutory declaration (SD) to prevent them from leaving the party after winning.
“Tok Mat, SDs cannot be used to prevent elected representatives from jumping parties,” the former transport minister said in a Facebook post on Friday (Nov 5) evening.
“The only thing [that can prevent this from happening] is the enactment of the anti-hopping legislation that is passed in Parliament following an amendment of the Federal Constitution.”
The Seremban MP went on to point out that Mohamad himself had had previously accepted a political ‘frog’ during his first term as Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan in 2004.
He was referring to former DAP strongman Lim Fui Ming, who had won the Bahau seat on a DAP ticket during the 11th general election (GE11).
Lim had joined MCA two months after he quit DAP in 2007.
“After this, I hope that all parties will support the establishment of the anti-hopping law in Parliament. Let’s have some dignity in politics,” he remarked. – Nov 6, 2021
