Light aircraft en route to Subang airport crashes at Elmina; as many as 7 fatalities reported (including a Pahang Exco)

SEVEN people, including a Pahang state EXCO, are believed killed when a light aircraft from Langkawi to the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah airport in Subang crashed in the Elmina township in Shah Alam around 3pm today.

A video posted by netizen Qamahl…. (@qamahl) captured the site of the crash with debris on a highway as well as some smoke billowing.

Astagfirullah, a plane has crashed in Elmina; so far, the incident involved a plane and motorcycles,” tweeted the netizen.

When contacted by Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia said it will issue a statement.

According to China Press, the small aircraft suddenly plummeted to the ground and exploded upon impact. Debris from the plane is said to have struck a motorcycle.

In an update, the New Straits Times learnt that the aircraft is believed to be a Beechcraft Premier 1 operated by a local private charter company. The plane was believed to have encountered difficulties before crashed on the highway near City of Elmina.

Fire and rescue department personnel are at the scene.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirms that a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) registration number N28JV had crashed near Elmina in Shah Alam, Selangor on Thursday (Aug 17)

The aircraft operated by Jetvalet Sdn Bhd departed from Langkawi International Airport at 2.08pm to the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

The first contact made by the aircraft with Subang Air Traffic Control Tower was at 2.47pm and landing clearance was given at 2.48pm. At 2.51pm, the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower observed smoke originating from the crash site but no mayday call was made by the aircraft.

Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (KL ARCC) has been activated to coordinate the search and rescue mission.

A total of six passengers and two flight crew were on board and their conditions have yet to be confirmed at press time. The safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.
