Lim Guan Eng is still relevant according to Teresa Kok

DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok Suh Sim dismissed speculation about plans to remove DAP leader Lim Guan Eng from the party’s leadership in the upcoming Central Executive Committee elections, stating that such rumours arise in every election.

She emphasised that it is up to the delegates to decide his role. Reports suggest a “concerted effort” to oust Lim, with some seeking a more “moderate” leader to attract Malay voters.

“Let it be. Every election, there will be rumours. It is all up to the delegates to decide whether a candidate can still contribute to the nation or the party,” Kok told a news portal.

“For me, I believe Lim has his role to play in the party.”

Sentiment against Lim has been growing, particularly due to his criticism of successor Chow Kon Yeow. Several senior members including Tan Kok Wai and Fong Kui Lun, have withdrawn from the election to pave the way for younger leaders.

Meanwhile, DAP veteran M Kulasegaran has announced his withdrawal from the party’s upcoming central executive committee elections, citing the need to make way for younger leaders.

In a statement, he urged members not to forget the sacrifices of party veterans who endured arrests and persecution while dedicating their own resources to the party’s cause.

Kulasegaran, who has been with DAP for 30 years, is believed to be backing Lim, who faces a strong challenge. His withdrawal follows similar moves by other senior leaders. He emphasised the party’s commitment to justice, human rights, and good governance. — Feb 22, 2025
