Loke says DAP MPs must get their facts right in denial of an inheritance tax

TRANSPORT Minister and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke dismissed rumors about the potential reintroduction of an inheritance tax by the Anwar administration, labeling them as unfounded.

“There is this rumour, that supposedly several taxes will be introduced, and one of them is inheritance tax,” he said during his address here.

“This is just an assumption. But people actually believe it. Even some DAP lawmakers believe it,” he said speaking at the DAP Federal Territories chapter convention.

Loke emphasised that the topic was never discussed in cabinet meetings, criticising party colleagues for believing the speculation.

The rumors, which originated from a report in Utusan Malaysia, suggested that the inheritance tax could be part of new revenue-raising measures in the upcoming federal budget.

In response, five DAP MPs from Sarawak stated they would oppose any such tax if proposed.

Loke advised the public and party members to fact-check before believing assumptions, as he considers the inheritance tax a non-issue.
