“Look in the mirror”: Netizens pan Nga for blaming voter apathy over Johor losses

FOLLOWING the abysmal performance by Pakatan Harapan in the recently concluded Johor state election, Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming took to social media to lament about the situation.

He also posted a graphic showing how the poor voter turnout had inadvertently allowed Barisan Nasional (BN) win a supermajority in the Johor state legislative assembly.

However, several netizens were displeased when the former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker had seemingly blamed voter apathy for the situation.

“Only 43.1% voters support BN but they won 2/3 majority seats in Johor. This is the result if you don’t vote, others will vote & decide your fate. Learn the lesson. #JohorBangkit #DemiMalaysia@dapmalaysia,” he wrote.

Responding to Nga’s assertions, user Naratif Rakyat said: “People that didn’t come out to vote probably not your biggest fan too. Them coming out to vote might result in a bigger majority for BN than now. We might never know. But learn this lesson that lying in manifesto doesn’t pay.”

Echoing his sentiments, user Ahmed replied: “Kalau semua orang undi pon ko belum tentu menang..dah menang jadi bangang lagi nak salahkan pengundi..cermin diri sendiri kenapa  kalah.”

(Even if everyone had turned up to vote, its’s not necessary they will vote for you. The problem is you people became imbeciles after tasting victory. Don’t’ simple blame voters…reflect on yourselves too)

With that, netizen Ayep posted his own projection on the Johor state election results, indicating that over 60% of the voters had rejected both Pakatan and Perikatan Nasional.

When the Johor polls was called, Pakatan Harapan member, PKR, surprised even its own allies DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) by deciding that it would use its own logo to contest instead of Pakatan Harapan’s banner.

In their argument, they said that the Pakatan’s logo carried too much baggage, owing it was designed when former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was leading the pact.

It is note that Perikatan fared even worse that Pakatan, winning only three seats while fledgling party, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) managed to win one seat.

Indians now with BN?

Touching on Nga’s comment, user Othman Hasshim reminded the veteran politician that it was important for the Opposition to show a united front to convince voters instead of being divided.

“YB, please don’t forget one other reason, when the opposition parties are divided, the votes were splits to the benefit of BN.

“For the coming GE15, please contest under one banner just like GE14.  Put all parties interest aside for the benefit of our citizens.”

On that note, netizen Tony Borno Castello issued a dire warning to Nga, urging him to study on why Indian votes have swung back to the MIC, despite the community rejecting the party since 2008.

“YB, please think why all Indian candidates from DAP lost their seats to Indian candidates from MIC? Do you notice or realise the difference between them? You may ask @mpklang, @mkula, @ramasamydcm [and] @ramkarpal.” – March 14, 2022.
