AN MCA Youth leader has expressed concern over a recent viral video highlighting an alarming incident where commuters witnessed and heard explosion sounds along the Kelana Jaya LRT route tracks around the Abdullah Hukum station last night (March 12).
This comes mere hours after the collapse of a wall panel at Masjid Jamek LRT station during the rainstorm.
MCA Youth deputy chairman Mike Chong Yew Chuan noted that while RapidKL has given assurance that no injuries were reported, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has yet to address the issue.
“The Kelana Jaya LRT line’s maintenance and safety standards have long been a concern among the public,” he stated.
“Now, as videos and personal accounts emerge from passengers trapped in a train heading towards Abdullah Hukum, reporting loud explosions, RapidKL has yet to acknowledge it, focusing instead on the wall panel collapse.”
Chong, who is also the MCA Federal Territories Youth chairman, said while the Masjid Jamek LRT wall panel collapse fortunately resulted in no injuries, passengers inside the affected train were left traumatised and fearful.
“In the footage, the train doors remained shut even after reaching the platform, with no security personnel in sight to assist, escalating panic,” he continued.
“Thankfully, passengers managed to disembark safely, but Malaysians are still waiting for answers almost a full 12 hours later. Was this an electrical fire? Poor track maintenance? We urge for the government to immediately launch a full investigation.”

Chong went on to note that questions on RapidKL’s social media remains unanswered, with only apologies for inconveniences caused.
He said the Transport Ministry should be assuring the public and implementing further safety measures and dispatching assistance to areas in need.
“Public confidence in RapidKL continues to decline due to repeated service disruptions and a persistent lack of accountability,” he remarked.
“Apologies without real action are no longer acceptable. The authorities’ slow response only deepens concerns about passenger safety. It is time for immediate intervention and a comprehensive action plan to restore trust in the public transport system.” – March 13, 2025
