LTKM denies wrongful farming allegations

LTKM Bhd has denied claims of wrongful farm practices that was published by a news portal on March 5, and is mulling legal action against “the organisations or individuals found to be responsible for the articles.”

The egg supplier, in a March 12 statement with Bursa Malaysia, denied the article “2 egg suppliers operating in dirty conditions, says animal rights group” by Free Malaysia Today, which cites animal and consumer rights group Equitas as saying that undercover footage shot last year showed “filth, food safety risks and animal cruelty” at LTKM’s farms.

LTKM said “our poultry farm operation fully complies with the requirements as set out by the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia (DVS) for livestock sector.”

The company also said it adhered to the strict guidelines stipulated by DVS on good farming practices including clean farm practice, livestock health, safety and biosecurity.

“We also wish to highlight that our poultry farm has been consistently accredited with Malaysian Good Agricultural Practice for the livestock sector by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia. Our farm has also been in compliance with stringent regulations for the export market of chicken eggs for the past 30 years,” LTKM said.

The company added that it had made a police report against recent allegations on social media containing “fake news and allegations of wrongful farm practices” at LTKM’s poultry farms.

“We have today made a police report and will consult with our lawyers on further actions that can be taken against the organisations or individuals found to be responsible for the articles,” LTKM said.

LTKM’s shares closed 8.4% lower to RM1.20 on March 12. – March 12, 2020
