MACC continues investigation in Yayasan Akalbudi case following Zahid’s DNAA

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is actively pursuing fresh leads in the Yayasan Akalbudi case involving Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki while launching the National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference in Sepang, mentioned that investigators are currently working on these leads.

He did not provide specific details regarding the ongoing investigations, leaving the duration of these inquiries to the discretion of the investigative team.

“I’m not sure how long is needed to look into the new leads. I leave it to my investigators,” The Star quoted Azam telling reporters after launching the National Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption Research Conference in Sepang earlier today.

This development follows Monday’s (Seot 4) decision to grant Zahid a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on all 47 charges related to criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering associated with Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah made the decision after considering 11 grounds presented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, leading to the halt of the trial.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers confirmed that the prosecution’s request for Zahid’s DNAA was based on “cogent” reasons. As the case continues to evolve, MACC remains committed to exploring new leads to ensure transparency and accountability. – Sept 6, 2023
