STEP aside “MADANI 10”!
This seems to be the outcome of the special “MADANI” vehicle registration plate bidding exercise as “MADANI 10” which symbolises Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being the 10th Prime Minister did not end up as the talk of the town but witty Malaysians prefer to bet on two deemed “cheeky numbers” – “MADANI 8481” and “MADANI 47”.
In fact, “MADANI 8481” which bears semblance to “BABI” which means pig in Malay was reported to draw the highest bid at RM9,999 in its category.
Also said to have generated “intense interest” is “MADANI 47” which is equated with the 47 corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The bidding for “MADANI 47” was opened at RM2,500.
Recall that the UMNO president who had faced 47 charges involving criminal breach of trust (CBT), corruption and money laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi has since been granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) leading to allegations that it was part of the agreement to form the coalition government.
For the record, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had on Saturday (Oct 19) released the MADANI special series for bidding with the price ranging from RM100 to RM20,000. The bidding exercise ends at 10pm today (Oct 23).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had presented Anwar the “MADANI 10” plate during an event in Sabah on Sunday (Oct 20).
According to RTD director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli, the price for the special numbers depends on the categories which included RM20,000 for main numbers, RM5,000 for premium numbers, RM2,500 for attractive numbers, RM500 for popular numbers and RM100 for running numbers.
He said proceeds from the sale would be used for government initiatives like MyLesen, the helmet exchange programme, FlySiswa and SOCSO payments to taxi drivers. – Oct 23, 2024
