“WEIGH your options” is an idiom that means to think carefully about different choices or paths before making a final decision.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, it comes from using a physical scale to balance items, thus enabling one to look at the good and bad points of each idea.
However, it does appear that current Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led administration is hell bent on making questionable choices at a time when moral and cultural sensitivities have become political hot potatoes.
Not content with just organising a water-themed jamboree which drew the ire of conservatives, the incumbent administration has seemingly upped the ante by ‘inviting’ home-grown p*rn star Siew Pui Yi a.k.a. Ms PuiYi to deejay the post-event party for the upcoming MyBlockchain Week 2026 (MYBW 2026) (July 29-30).

For the uninitiated, Ms PuiYi rose to fame as a glamour model whose forte were risqué images with her emerging as the first Southeast Asian woman to grace Penthouse magazine in 2022.
The Penang-raised lass has since re-invented herself as social media influencer, actress and rising figure in electronic dance music.
This somewhat tone-deaf invitation was highlighted by Bicara Krypto who sneered at the need to invite a “p*rn star” to a so-called government-involved event on Facebook.
Editor’s Note: Bicara Krypto is a prominent Malaysian Web3 and digital asset education platform founded in August 2018 by Asyraf Ahamed (also known online as Asyraf Mmgt) who serves as its founder and an “HRD Corp Accredited Trainer”.
“It wouldn’t matter if the event had no official government logo or ministry involvement,” surmised the blockchain expert, noting that MYBW 2026 was already looking “professional” with planned ministerial attendance.
So why sully it with this questionable invitation to a personality known for portraying a highly risqué image?
“Was the event to promote blockchain or to promote s*x?” queried the obviously unimpressed citizen.
The post has generated 2.5K likes, 747 comments and 1.1K shares at time of writing, denoting that this after event party has gotten tongues wagging.
Needless to say, the backlash was loud and shrill. One commenter asked if this was the image that the Madani administration wished to project.
More damningly, one commenter used this after party bash as evidence of a closed-door group more intent of hanging out and enjoying themselves rather than making meaningful contributions to Malaysia’s blockchain scene.
Thankfully, the organiser has at the eleventh hour fronted up to its lack of sensitivity by issuing a grovelling apology for causing discomfort, confusion and uproar over the after-event bash.
It acknowledged that greater care should have been “exercised to ensure that all activities and promotional materials associated with MYBW 2026 reflected the professionalism and standards expected of an event involving industry and public-sector stakeholders”.
The statement completely absolves the Digital Ministry and the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) of any blame for these faux paus.
Few things to note about this episode.
Firstly, isn’t there some form of oversight for such government events? Is the entire handling of the event left to external third parties sans scrutiny?
Such a lax attitude is what leads to embarrassing moments such as this and which will be used as a very long stick to beat the Madani government.
Secondly, although an apology has been issued by the event organiser and all promo materials relating to the after-event bash has been pulled, the pertinent question that needs to be asked is “how tone deaf can one be?”.
Is this the level of professionalism for event organisers appointed to manage government functions? It is incredible that they are unable to read the room sufficiently to know that Ms PuiYi is quite possibly the wrong choice of celebrity to grace a government-endorsed event.
