Ahmad Zulqarnain as new PNB chief pending SC approval

Khazanah Nasional Bhd deputy managing director Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn is in pole position for the post of president and group chief executive (PCGE) of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).

Sources say that his appointment is pending approval from the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC).

Ahmad Zulqarnain will succeed Jalil Rasheed who resigned on June 15 after the latter’s education credentials and working experience came under scrutiny.

But in his farewell email, Jalil said he had received harassing phone calls while his corporate email and LinkedIn profile had been hacked.

That was the “last straw… In the end, I decided that it would be unfair to my family should matters escalate,” Jalil said.

PNB and SC are currently investigating the matter. On June 18, SC confirmed it had been notified about Jalil’s academic qualifications and work experience, and “has since received confirmation of the discrepancies in the submission.”

PNB responded to SC’s comments the next day that it had sent an “initial response” to the SC and “established an inquiry team to investigate into this matter.” A more detailed reply, the fund said in a statement, would follow suit in “the very near term.”
