COVID-19: New cases on a downtrend as mass vaccination effort expands reach

THE Health Ministry announced 1,680 new COVID-19 infections and seven deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that there were 2,548 recoveries, bringing the total number of those recovered to 289,452.

“We have a total number of 311,777 infection cases as of now. Unfortunately, seven people have lost their lives to the coronavirus, bringing the total death toll to 1,166,” he added.

All those who died were locals.

Selangor detected the highest number of infections today at 826, followed by Sarawak (221) and Johor (139).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has detected four new clusters in the country.

Three of the them are workplace related and the other is community based.

“With that, we have 478 active clusters. Fourteen clusters have ended today itself. Three clusters that contributed to the high number of cases today are Jalan Zamrud construction site (64), Jalan Muhibbah (31) and Jalan Pelabuhan (31). – March 6, 2021.
