Destini: No new talks with MMEA, to deliver first OPV this year

By Emmanuel Samarathisa

DESTINI Bhd said there was no renegotiation between THHE Destini Sdn Bhd, a 50:50 joint venture between Destini and TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE), for the RM738.9 mil contract with Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) to build three offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).

Destini was responding to FocusM’s article on Jan 13 entitled “Destini shrugs off RM739 mil maritime job delay concerns” which said that its joint venture with THHE has been renegotiating with MMEA over the contract due to financing issues.

“We wish to highlight that there are no renegotiations between THHE Destini Sdn Bhd and the MMEA on the OPV contract due to financial issues as how it was written in the second paragraph of your article,” a company spokesperson said.

Destini also stressed that THHE Destini was “working closely” with MMEA pertaining to the contract.

“The OPV project is progressing as per contract requirements and we are confident that we will deliver the first OPV to the MMEA within this year,”  the spokesperson says. – Jan 14, 2020
