Frontrunners identified for MISC & Sime Darby companies

More changes are underfoot across key government-linked companies (GLCs) with two MPs being tipped to be offered plum posts, sources tell FocusM.

Tanjung Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar of Umno has been nominated to be chairman of shipping giant MISC Bhd. He will succeed Datuk Abdul Halim Mohyiddin.

Sulaman state assemblyman Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor of Bersatu has been tipped to head Sime Darby Group Bhd. He is expected to replace Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad.

Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas, also from Bersatu, has been tipped to replace Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman as chairman of Sime Darby Plantations Bhd. Megat Najmuddin is also believed to be a close associate of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

These shifts come as part of Muhyiddin’s plan to reward loyalists from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government. PN is a loose pact consisting of Muhyiddin’s party Bersatu, Umno, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

Other changes on the cards include the possible appointment of Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim as the next FGV Holdings Bhd chairman.

So far, when it comes to listed companies, political appointments include Padang Terap MP Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (Umno) as chairman of utilities giant Tenaga Nasional Bhd and former Johor menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin as Boustead Holdings Bhd chairman. – May 28, 2020
