Khazanah contributes RM20 mil to support Covid-19 relief efforts

KHAZANAH Nasional Bhd is contributing RM20 mil to support relief efforts relating to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Khazanah said the contribution will be channelled through the Government-Linked Companies (GLC) and Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) Disaster Response Network (GDRN), which coordinates GLC and GLIC assistance to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other groups in urgent need.

“Khazanah is greatly appreciative of the tireless efforts by the government, the GDRN, as well as all others involved in the fight against Covid-19, especially the dedication and sacrifice shown by those on the frontlines,” managing director Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan said in a statement today.

He said as an organisation and as individual employees, Khazanah is pleased to do what it can to contribute to the overall resources that are being brought to fight against the pandemic.

“Many of us are already contributing a portion of our monthly salaries to this fight and I encourage everyone to do so if they can afford it,” he said.

The GDRN is managed by a joint-secretariat, led by Yayasan Hasanah, a foundation under Khazanah, and Telekom Malaysia Bhd.

Excluding the recent RM20 mil contribution from Khazanah; GLICs, GLCs and other private sector entities have contributed a total of RM51.5 mil  through the GDRN to-date, of which RM42.6 mil has been allocated for the purchase of medical supplies in support of MoH while RM8.9 mil has been spent on various humanitarian aid and assistance.

Khazanah employees are also contributing individually through an internal donation drive to support Covid-19 response and relief efforts undertaken by Mercy Malaysia and Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), with contributions made via voluntary salary deductions and direct individual donations to the agencies concerned. — April 6, 2020, Bernama
