Khazanah files police report over Malaysia Airlines ‘leak’ to FocusM

KHAZANAH Nasional Bhd has filed a police report over a purported leak of board papers on Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB).

Business publication The Edge, citing sources, said on Jan 24 that the sovereign wealth fund was “upset” and “shocked” over the matter, and lodged a report on the matter yesterday (Jan 23).

“The sources said this was not a normal leak of information to the media which typically does not involve such detailed information. It appears that the entire set of confidential board papers on the various options being considered for the troubled national carrier was given to the news portal which published them in a series of articles earlier this week,” the report said without naming the portal.

“Sources say only a small group of people had access to the documents as the proposals were deemed very confidential. Khazanah worry [sic] that such a blatant leak of board papers containing detailed and confidential information will make it tough for it to undertake future deals with third parties. The integrity of its processes is at stake on the matter,” The Edge report said.

FocusM published a series of articles earlier this week on MAB and the various bids for it.

Some of the published findings include MAB needing RM21 bil in public funds to operate until 2025, Japan Airlines Co Ltd was among the frontrunners, and that Khazanah had been leaning towards a three-way merger between AirAsia Group Bhd, AirAsia X Bhd and MAB.
