LRT tragedy: Only RM1k as compensation? Take Prasarana to court!

IRATE over the Light Rail Transit (LRT) crash and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) slow response, the public took to social media to vent out their anger over the matter.

Earlier today, Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said that all 213 victims of the train collision last night will receive RM1,000 in compensation.

He also apologised the for the matter and an investigation was underway to ascertain its cause.

“We took all necessary steps to make sure our services are safe. You can’t say our service isn’t safe. This is the first (incident of its kind). We are doing our best to maintain the safety levels,” Free Malaysia Today reported the Pasir Salak MP as saying.

However, netizens were unimpressed with Tajuddin’s remarks.

“RM 1,000? What a joke, Prasarana. semoga semua affected buka file, saman Prasarana. gila apa, (I hope everyone sues Prasarana). Imagine the physical damage caused. not just physical, the mental trauma of stepping into a train again,” said user Danial.

Netizen Abah echoed Danial’ sentiments, saying RM1,000 was a paltry compensation and those affected should take the company to court.

Another user called Silly Chilli remarked: “Prasarana is gonna blame the transport minister, Transport ministry is gonna blame MOF, open investigation will take place, 6 months later nothings gonna happen with the LRT Kelana Jaya mishap ..everyone keeps their job – no one will be held accountable #KerajaanGagal.”

Yesterday, 213 people were left injured after a manually driven train collided with another train in a tunnel near KLCC,

The manually tested train was alleged to have failed to coordinate properly with the command centre.

Get rid of Tajuddin

On related matter, Public Transport Users Association (4PAM) president Ajit Johl has called for Tajuddin to quit over the incident due to his slow response to the tragedy.

He said Tajuddin lack of response showed disrespect to the affected passengers and called for the affected parties to compensated adequately.

“I call upon Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to form a public transport tribunal to investigate the incident and ensure such tragedy never happens again,” he stated.

On that note, social media user Nizar agreed that Tajuddin should resign over the incident.

“Chairman of Prasarana should step down after the incident of LRT Kelana Jaya Line. Oh wait. I forgot, this is Malaysia, not NZ or Japan,” he said, in a jest. – May 25, 2021.
