THE Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced a major shake-up of its management team to keep up with the challenges of unprecedented times.
“Recent hires include executives from the private sector such as IBM, Microsoft, Celcom Bhd, Touch n Go, Astro, Edelman, technology start-ups, Pemandu Associates, Media Prima Bhd and more.
“This is an unprecedented time in human history, and we welcome the constructive feedback and support to enable us to lead the digital economy forward to benefit the many,” the government agency entrusted to lead Malaysia’s digital economy forward pointed out.
While not mentioning the new hires, MDEC announced that it was replacing several of its key executives who have started leaving since October last year. They include:
Touching on the matter, MDEC chairman Datuk Wira Rais Husin said the agency was embarking on changes as Malaysia makes a leap into the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) era.
“So, MDEC naturally sees movement at all levels – this is expected and warranted. We recognise and have taken action to bring in industry-focused talents and technocrats to help Malaysia make the digital leap into the IR4.0,” he noted in a media release.
Echoing Rais’ sentiments, its CEO Surina Shukri said as MDEC celebrates its 25th anniversary, it was vital for the organisation to recognise and capitalise on new opportunities for Malaysians at large.
“And we are confident that our new agile, streamlined and collaborative leadership structure will enhance its mass outreach and enable us to achieve our vision of a people-first society in the age of IR4.0,” she added.
Yesterday, online news portal The Vibes claimed that the eight executives left due to differences with the top management, alleging there was a split between Rais and Surina’s camps.
However, Rais himself had dismissed the claims, saying it was “absolutely not true”. – Jan 21, 2021.
