More than 100 M’sian companies to participate at F&B trade fairs in Dubai

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 100 Malaysian food and beverage (F&B) companies will participate at the world’s largest F&B trade fairs, Gulfood, to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) beginning from tomorrow (Feb 16) until Feb 20.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said other public sector agencies including Malaysia Palm Oil Council, Majlis Amanah Rakyat, Department of Industrial Development and Research, Sabah and Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority would be joining the event.

Among Malaysian products to be promoted in the trade fairs include palm oil-based products, food ingredients, beverages, confectionery, sauces and paste, snacks, frozen food, bakery products as well as ready-to-eat meals.

Matrade’s director of halal, F&B and agro-based section Remee Yaakub said Malaysia’s participation in Gulfood was aimed at exposing global buyers at the event, especially from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, to the wide variety of high-quality products by Malaysian companies.

“We will also be promoting Malaysia’s strengths in Halal as there is currently an increase in demand for Halal products in the region,” he said in a statement today.

In 2019, Malaysia’s exports of processed food to the MENA region increased 20 per cent to RM1.9 billion with the UAE emerging as Malaysia’s largest export destination in the region last year.

“One of the reasons for this is strong acceptance for Malaysian’s F&B products there and the wide distribution of Malaysian products around supermarkets in the region,” Remee shared.

Matrade also noted that one of the Malaysian participating companies, Dr Aishah Solution has been shortlisted as the potential winner of Gulfood 2020 Award for ‘The Most Innovative Halal Product’ category. – Feb 15, 2020, Bernama.
