Old Town: Stop the lies, we don’t serve pork

OLD Town White Coffee urged the public to stop spreading malicious rumours against its establishment or face legal action.

“The allegation has impacted our customers as it created concerns and unnecessary confusion among them.

“For customers who know us well, we still see strong support from them in the past few days,” said Oldtown F&B Halal committee chairman Datuk Dr Ahmed Tasir told FocusM.

Three days ago, several officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) raided an Old Town outlet in Subang Jaya after unscrupulous individuals spread rumours on social media that its trademark curry noodles contained pork.

The officers eventually concluded that the allegations were false after an investigation.

Tasir said that Old Town outlets across Malaysia have obtained and consistently renewed their halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) since 2010.

“We take the halal certification and its regulations seriously. Rest assured that all the ingredients in our food and beverages do not contain any traces of pork or non-halal elements,” he said.

The popular local franchise had since lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the matter.

“We would like to urge the public to stop the spread of this falsehood,” said Tasir. – Nov 15, 2020
