Scomi applies for injunction against Wan Azmi

SCOMI Group Bhd has applied for an injunction to restrain Tan Sri Nik Awang @ Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah from calling or demanding for payment of a sum of RM21.86 mil, the company said in a Bursa filing on Feb 14.

On Jan 20, Scomi received a letter of demand from Messrs Mah-Kamariyah & Philip Koh, the solicitors for Wan Azmi, who had demanded RM21.86 mil which has become due and payable on Jan 17, within five days from the date of the letter of demand.

According to news reports, on July 18 last year, Scomi announced it had entered into a loan agreement with Wan Azmi and Gelombang Global Sdn Bhd (GGSB). Wan Azmi and GGSB have each underwrote RM21 mil worth of rights shares.

Scomi had on May 27, 2019 made a proposal for a corporate restructuring that would seek to raise at least RM75.6 mil via the issuance of up to 1.189 billion shares.

But the restructuring did not go through even six months after it received injection of funds from Wan Azmi and GGSB in July last year. – Feb 14, 2020
