Tekun Nasional disburses RM5.6 bil to 440,000 entrepreneurs

SEREMBAN: Tekun Nasional disbursed a total of RM5.6 bil in financing to 440,012 SMEs nationwide between 1998 and November 2019.

Its deputy chairman Najwa Halimah Ab Alim said 578,459 SME entrepreneurs in the same period received refinancing to expand their businesses.

“In fact, many are unaware that we offer refinancing for business expansion to entrepreneurs who had taken loans and were consistent in their repayments,” she said, adding, the loan amount ranged from RM1,000 to a maximum RM100,000.

She disclosed that Tekun Nasional plans to raise the loan amount to RM200,000.

“We have discussed the matter with the board of directors but it has yet to be approved by the Ministry of Finance,” she told reporters after the Negeri Sembilan-level ‘Back To School’ programme organised by Tekun Nasional at Mydin Mall Seremban 2 here.

According to her, Tekun Nasional collected RM449 mil – a 90% loan repayment rate – as of November this year.

“Our financial performance this year has improved; we earned some profit despite having disbursed a substantial amount in financing,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tekun Nasional is holding a nationwide campaign dubbed ‘Jom Jejak Usahawan’ to train SME entrepreneurs in business knowhow such as registering with the Companies Commission of Malaysia, preparing financial statements and marketing approaches.

On the ‘Back to School’ programme, Najwa Halimah said Tekun Nasional set aside RM514,000 in business tithes for school bags and RM100 vouchers to 4,900 needy children nationwide as part of its annual corporate social responsibility agenda. – Dec 31, 2019 Bernama
